You are required to form groups of five members (max.) in your tutorial class to complete this assessment task.

Tasks for Group Work  

Based on the given set of architectural drawings (9 pages, see drawing list) and supplementary information for a proposed child care centre project in Katoomba, you are appointed as the Consultant QS to carry out the cost planning. Your cost planning task MUST include: 

1. An elemental cost plan using ACMM format as at today’s prices (i.e., 30 June 2025). It should include:  

  • a cost plan summary;  
  • a summary of cost;  
  • an elemental summary;  
  • a list of elements; and 
  • The working sheets on measurement tasks. 

A cost plan template in an MS Excel spreadsheet is available on the course Moodle.  

2. An estimating report that should include:  

  • Introduction (Description of project);
  • Basis of estimate (e.g., current market price with no allowance for future fluctuations);  
  • Assumptions  of estimate  (e.g.,  method of construction, structural system, contractual arrangement, etc.);  
  • Exclusions (e.g., professional fees, loose furniture, special equipment, GST, etc.); and
  • Any other relevant information on various matters that are cost significant. 

Supplementary information  

1. Site area is a quarter-circle area on the A2001 Site Plan, including the shaded grey area of the car parking space.  
2. Assumed soil condition on site: clay  
3. No demolition of the existing building required. All existing buildings, trees, hard and soft landscaping on site will be demolished and disposed of by the client.  
4. Allow for all bulk and detailed excavation as required.

  • Allow for air-conditioning for the child care centre.
  • Allow for connections to service authorities mains, including sewer, stormwater, water and electrical.

Marking Scheme 

  • The marking for the group work report will be based on the quality and content of the report (see page 7 for assessment criteria).
  • Every group member will get EQUAL marks for the group work final submission (i.e., 30% of the total assessment). Your group should aim for equal individual contributions
