Technology Review Assignment

Technology is ever-changing, and can be an asset to many tasks, activities, and professions. But technology can often be a burden, impractical, or can let us down in many situations. Coaching is no exception!

The purpose of this assignment is to explore multiple technological “assistants” that you might use as a coach of a youth, school, or community sports team. You can investigate computer programs, “apps” for a mobile phone or tablet, or “management systems” to use for an entire athletic department or school district. You do NOT need to spend any money to complete this assignment – usually there is a “trial” or free version of apps and programs, or demos of different management systems that can provide all of the information that you will need.

Use the outline below to complete a review of THREE different technologies that would assist in coaching. These do not have to be specific to coaching – if there is an app that is not specifically designed for coaching, but is helpful in planning and conducting practices, or for tracking player performance/attendance, etc., you may review it as well! NOTE – if you already use an “app” or program for your coaching, you may include it in your review, but you may only use this app or program for ONE of your three technology reviews. (Please be honest! This is for your own knowledge, growth and development as a coach!)

If you aren’t sure where to start searching for different technology applications, start with an internet search, or search the “App Store” on your mobile phone!

Prior to reviewing your selected technologies, write an introductory paragraph that addresses:

1) your comfort level with technology,

2) your stance on using technology in coaching (are you pro-technology, or do you not see the need for it? Why?), and

3) any prior experience you have with using technology in any aspect of coaching.

***Graduate students, please cite at least two peer-reviewed articles (using APA formatting) that support your stance on using technology in coaching in this paragraph.
