Module 6 Project, Programme and Change Management in Procurement & Supply Task Assignment Brief 2026

Module 6 Assignment Brief

You have been asked by your organisation to propose and develop a procurement and supply related business project to deliver clear benefits and sustainable improvements. Your report should be in the style of a business case and must demonstrate your understanding of:

  • The Concept Of Change Management And How It Can Be Achieved.
  • Aspects Of Projects And Programmes In Organisations.
  • Approaches To The Planning And Management Of Projects, Programmes And Change Initiatives.
  • Contracting And Financial Options In Projects And Programmes.

Your report must include recommendations for improvement or change and should consider how your recommendations might be implemented. In order to develop your business report, you will need to draw on and integrate the content from the other five CAAP modules.

Your report should consist of 10,000 words.

Prepare a business report

Whilst the task asks you to prepare a business report, it is important to bear in mind that this is an academic assignment and not a business report. As such, make sure that you write your assignment in the 3rd Person. Also, if your organisation does have a standard report template, do not use it as it is not appropriate for this academic assignment.

Refer to the Candidate Assignment Guidance document for details on how you should structure your assignment.

Also, remember that you are being asked to develop a business project in YOUR organisation, so it is really important that you always relate the content back to your organisation.

You have been asked by your organisation to propose and develop a procurement and supply related business project to deliver clear benefits and sustainable improvements.

As well as the usual introduction and background to your organisation (see candidate assignment guidance), it will be helpful to frame the project problem statement at an early stage. The ethos of any project of this type is; ‘what is the problem or areas for improvement? ie the ‘hypothesis’ the reason for the project – ‘what is the current situation?’ ie based on research, justifying the project / areas for improvement – ‘what are the available solutions’ (based on research) – ‘here are my recommendations’ (justified by the research).

The Concept Of Change Management And How It Can Be Achieved.

This element is taken from Module six, LO1.0. Remember, you will also need to draw on and integrate some of the content from the other five CAAP modules.

  • Consider the types of change from this module LO1.1. Consider also the change management elements from Module one, LO3.3.
  • Analyse situations that lead to organisational change (LO1.2). There is a good opportunity to do this early in your report, ie analysing the drivers for the changes that you believe are necessary. Content around organisational strategy from Module two would be apt in this section.
  • Evaluate organisational responses to change (LO1.3) and Analyse methods to manage, achieve and maintain change (LO1.4). These areas might lend themselves more to the implementation plan for this project report, ie identifying any resistance to the recommendations that you make and producing a plan to address that. Various elements of leadership from Module one are relevant here, too.

Aspects Of Projects And Programmes In Organisations.

This element is taken from Module six, LO2.0. Remember, you will also need to draw on and integrate some of the content from the other five CAAP modules.

  • Analyse aspects of projects & programmes in organisations (LO2.1) includes stakeholder analysis, which has been covered in multiple modules, so use all relevant content. This LO also covers the measures of success for projects, which should be reflected in your primary research, ie what will constitute success for your project’s stakeholders?
  • Evaluate the impact on supply chain relationships of undertaking projects & programmes (LO2.2) offers the chance to include content from Module three (Global Strategic Supply Chain Management).
  • 3 (Analyse the resources for projects & programmes) and LO2.4 (Analyse the project life cycles of projects & programmes) are likely to be included in the methodology section for this assignment.

Approaches To The Planning And Management Of Projects, Programmes And Change Initiatives.

This element is taken from Module six, LO3.0. Remember, you will also need to draw on and integrate some of the content from the other five CAAP modules.

  • The content for LO3.1 (structures), 3.2 (objectives) and 3.4 (methodologies) lend themselves to the methodology section of this assignment. The objectives should also be revisited during your recommendations, ie how the objectives should be achieved.
  • Analyse approaches to the management of risks for projects & programmes (LO3.3) could be a separate section to cover various content from Module six, Module three (LO2.1) and from Module five (LO1.2 and 1.3).
  • Assess the implications of projects & programme closure on the supply chain (LO3.5) should be addressed as part of the project planning, ie exit strategy. Contractual implications should be considered alongside the content of Module five (Contract Management in Procurement & Supply).

Contracting And Financial Options In Projects And Programmes.

This element is taken from Module six, LO4.0. Remember, you will also need to draw on and integrate some of the content from the other five CAAP modules.

  • 1 contains a lot of content specific to works (construction) contracts. This may be relevant to your project assignment. Module five offers more general content about contracting in procurement and supply.
  • Pricing mechanisms (LO4.2), Investment appraisal (LO4.3), Financial & cost management (LO4.4 and 4.5) all lend themselves to the options appraisal and recommendations sections.
  • Module two also covers costs and finance (LO4.1) and pricing arrangements (LO4.3)

In order to develop your business report, you will need to draw on and integrate the content from the other five CAAP modules.

The suggestions above should help you to find sections from the other five CAAP modules to integrate into this assignment. This is NOT an exhaustive list, however.

The topic of your project will provide opportunities to integrate much more content. If your project is about logistics, Module three is most relevant, for example; or if your project involves category management, Module four will be most useful.

There are many models that can be used from each of the modules. Remember, the assessor will be expecting you to APPLY these models to your project, not simply explain what the model means in theory.

Your report must include recommendations for improvement or change and should consider how your recommendations might be implemented.

You MUST include recommendations in your assignment.

Think about the gaps / areas for improvement that you have identified in the sections above, and how you could use these areas for improvement to develop your assignment’s recommendations.

Implementation plans can be supported by theory from Module one (Leadership & Management), as well as Module six LO1 (change management).

Really focus on what the assignment task is asking. Try not to digress or get distracted with things that don’t answer the task. Always ask yourself 1) Has what I’ve written answered the question? and

2) Has what I’ve written added value to the assignment?

If the answer to either of these questions is no, really think about whether you should keep it in the assignment.
