1. Overview
- Assignment Due Date: 1pm Friday Week 8 (25 July 2025)
- Results Released: 5pm Friday Week 10 (8 August 2025)
- All times are based on Sydney time.
This assessment evaluates your ability to identify best practices in client engagement and financial advice delivery. It involves watching videos of one adviser (Tristan or Jeremy) and answering two questions based on their interactions.
2. Weight
This assignment is worth 20% of the total course assessment.
3. Backup Your Work
- Write your assignment gradually.
- Create regular backups using USB, OneDrive (UNSW provides free access), Dropbox, etc.
- Technical issues do not constitute grounds for special consideration.
4. Late Penalties
- Penalty: 5% per day (including weekends).
- Maximum delay accepted: 5 days after the deadline.
- Example: A score of 70/100 submitted 2 days late becomes 60/100.
5. Special Consideration
- Granted only in exceptional cases.
- Max extension: 7 days.
- Submit the application within 3 working days of the due date.

6. No Short Extensions
This task is not eligible for short extensions without documentation.
7. Individual Assessment
- All work must be your own.
- AI-generated content is not allowed (except for grammar/spelling or translation).
- Misconduct includes copying, paraphrasing, or sharing assignments.
8. No Artificial Intelligence
Use of AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT) is not permitted except for:
- Translating to/from English (e.g., Google Translate).
- Correcting grammar/spelling (e.g., Grammarly).
9. Template
Use the Microsoft Word Template provided in the ‘Adviser Engagement’ section.
10. Formatting
- Font: Arial (PC) or Helvetica (Mac); Times New Roman permitted for students with dyslexia.
- Font size: 11pt
- Line spacing: 1.08 (default in template)
- File format: PDF
- Filename format:

11. Exporting to PDF
Steps in Word:
- File > Export
- Create PDF/XPS
- Check name/location
- Click Publish
12. Videos
- Choose one adviser: Tristan Scifo or Jeremy Chiel
- Use examples from both for higher marks.
- Videos are on YouTube (see course website).
- Bonus videos: Alexander Pan (industry compliance officer)
13. Questions
Question 1 (50 Marks)
Give examples where the adviser helped the client:
- Understand their situation
- Articulate goals
- Identify strategies
Why are these actions important in the financial planning process?
Question 2 (50 Marks)
Respond to the statement:
“I don’t need a financial adviser. I’m good at managing money.”
Using video examples, explain the benefits of financial advice for someone aged 50.
14. Word Limit
- No fixed limit, but 1,000–2,000 words expected.
- Divide roughly equally between both questions.
- You may write more if desired.
15. Writing Style
- Use report-style writing: headings, bullet points, tables/diagrams.
- Use headings: Question 1 and Question 2
16. References and Citations
- Video citations: (Adviser Name mm:ss), e.g., (Jeremy Chiel 10:15)
- Lecture slides: Informal citation by unit title and slide number
- External sources: Harvard, APA, or Oxford style acceptable
- Reference examples:

18. Submission

Penalties may apply based on Conformity, Late Submission, or Academic Misconduct.
21. Grade and Feedback
- Released on the course site at the date indicated.
- Access via ‘Grades’ or ‘Adviser Engagement Grades and Feedback’.
- Feedback includes a grade and brief comments.
22. Review of Results
Process:
- Read feedback and rubric.
- Wait 24 hours before raising concerns.
- Email your grade screenshot and specific query to: a.hingston@unsw.edu.au
- Request must be within 1–7 days of result release.
Note: Result may increase or decrease upon review.
Not valid reasons for review:
- Lack of time
- Other assignments
- Financial/visa worries
- Peer grades
- Need to boost WAM
