EDPSY 642 Project 3 (25pts)
Data Analysis using Within Subjects Factors

For this project you will be working with the Earthquake_Depress.sav dataset available on Blackboard. This dataset contains information on the depression level of 25 individuals measured before (Week0) and then 4 times after experiencing an earthquake. You are interested in finding out whether experiencing an earthquake effects the depression levels of individuals and whether this experience is different for males and females.

Your write up should be well organized and well written using complete sentences, thoughts, and punctuation.

1. The appropriate analysis to address this research question is a factorial analysis of variance. List the Sources of Variability for this study. [4]

2. Run this analysis in SPSS. In your output be sure to include the following: [6]
▪ Descriptive Statistics/Histograms
▪ Test of Homogeneity of Variances
▪ Effect Size
▪ A Repeated Measures contrast technique (of your choosing)

3. List the assumptions for this test and tell whether each assumption is met or violated. (Do not just say yes/no, give me your evidence and explain your reasoning) [5]

4. Looking at the tests of between and within subjects effects, interpret your results. In your interpretation consider the following questions: What have you learned about depression after the earthquake? What have you learned about depression over time and gender? Is there an interaction between the two? What does this mean? [5]

5. Look at the Repeated Measures contrasts you ran. What kind did you run and what have you learned from them? [3]

6. Report and interpret the effect sizes of your effects. How practically important do these results seem to be? [2]
