ASSESSMENT SUMMARY

Create a hand-drawn OR digital concept map that captures those factors that might have contributed to the onset of Joseph’s particular vocal problems and the
implications of these factors for intervention.
Key elements to consider:
 Concept map should be equivalent to A3 sized paper – consider that you will need to
submit your map online
 Your map should be readable without zooming in
 You can link between concepts using unidirectional and bidirectional arrows
 Ensure you are using linking phrases/word for ALL links between concepts
 Use colour coding, different shapes or sizes to emphasise the hierarchy of concepts
PURPOSE OF ASSESSMENT
This assessment aims to give you practice in:
 Adapting your professional, written communication using different formats
 Understanding and integrating foundational concepts of speech pathology e.g.,
physical and psychosocial factors, into your decision-making process
 Explaining the foundational principles of assessment and management of paediatric
voice
 Demonstrating your reasoning and enquiry-based approach to a speech pathology
case study

WRITTEN ASSIGNMENT DESCRIPTION
Step 1:
Establish your focus question/statement (related to the information above) and write it at the
top of your page, above your concept map. The information presented on your concept map
should answer this question.
Step 2:
Refer to the Concept Map resources on FLO and follow the steps to construct your map.
Your map should include:
 A key showing any colour-coding
 Clear organisation and structure that allows the reader to follow the ‘story’ you are trying
to tell
 Clearly defined ‘main’ concepts that lead on to secondary concepts and then on to any
new hypotheses, or creative ideas that you would like to portray
 Linking phrases/words for ALL links between concepts
Step 3:
Write a reference list on a separate document, with any sources that helped in your
construction of the map, including in the design and content.
Step 4:
Complete the AI declaration form and submit with the assignment.

Assessment Exemplars:

are not ‘perfect’ examples as every student will bring individual observations,
reflections and learnings, however can act as a guide.
Rubric:
 While this course is an NGP, a rubric is provided and will be used in the marking of
this assessment. This rubric is useful to review, before completing this assignment
and provides information about the different levels of achievement for this task. It is
based on Biggs’ SOLO Taxonomy model. Please use this resource to further guide
your mapping.
