Gelos Enterprises

Read the Gelos Enterprises Procedures and Guidelines Networking to understand the organisation, structure, WHS & Environmental guidelines, and network installation procedures.

Your Role

You are a Trainee Network Engineer at Gelos Enterprises. Gelos has been contracted by ABC Company to update their network. Work under supervision of James Chang, ICT Network Senior Manager. Adhere to all Gelos and ABC Company policies, procedures, and WHS guidelines while on-site.

ABC Company Scenario

The scenario contains ABC Company’s current situation, client requirements, organisational procedures, and manufacturer specifications.

Manufacturer Specifications

You will use the Linksys WRT300N Wireless Router N Broadband Router. Review its user guide before installation.

Part 1: Practical

Task 1.1 – Manage Client’s ICT Equipment

  • Move ABC-WR (wireless router), ABC-Server, and ABC-SW (switch) to the ABC server room wiring closet.
  • Mount ABC-Server and ABC-SW onto the rack; place ABC-WR on the operating equipment table.
  • Position workstations, laptops, tablets, and printers according to WHS guidelines and client requirements.
  • Move unused devices (PC1, Laptop1, Printer1, IP Phone0) to the appropriate location.
  • Move redundant equipment (Hub0, Old-Switch, Repeater0) according to organisational procedures.

Task 1.2 – Install Network Protocols (Wired: Ethernet)

  • Connect ABC-PC (Admin) to ABC-WR via FastEthernet0 to Ethernet2.
  • Connect ABC-Printer to ABC-SW via Fast Ethernet0/1.
  • Place cables in conduits along walls following WHS guidelines.
  • Connect ABC-SW to ABC-WR and ABC-Server via Gigabit Ethernet connections.
  • Organise cables neatly on the rack and hang extra cables on the pegboard.

Task 1.6 – Test and Validate Network Protocols

  • Confirm ABC-Tablet (CEO), ABC-Laptop (MD), and ABC-PC (Admin) obtain IP addresses from DHCP.
  • Test connectivity to ABC-WR.

Task 1.7 – Troubleshoot Problems

  • Issue 1: Devices cannot access the internet.
  • Issue 2: Devices cannot access local intranet site.
