Assessment #1 : GROUP Presentation: Using GPT to Improve Employee Well-Being in Organisations

Introduction to Organisational Behaviour Assessment 1 Brief : Group Presentation

Assessment #1 : GROUP Presentation: Using GPT to Improve Employee Well-Being in Organisations

Objective:

This assessment is designed to introduce first-year undergraduate business students to the use of CHAT.GPT (a generative AI model) can be used as a tool for developing strategies that can enhance employee well-being within an organisation. Students will demonstrate their ability to use simple, effective prompts to guide GPT in generating ideas and solutions that can improve workplace environments.

Submission Format:

Your submission must be in Microsoft PowerPoint format, including recorded voice-over and speaker notes where relevant. Submissions without a voice-over or not in the correct .pptx format will not be marked. If this occurs, you will need to resubmit on a designated resit date. Use the official template for submission.

Group size: The presenting group must consist of between three and five persons within your seminar group. Unless your seminar tutor confirms with you in writing, there will be no exception. If you submit your work as a single person (or any group size without adhering to the above requirement), you need to attach a confirmation letter at the end of the presentation. Open the TEMPLATE above and go to the last slide.

MAKE sure only one person per group executes the submission, AND refer to the TEMPLATE (2nd last slide) on how to display all presentation participants within the slides.

Instructions:

  • Length: 1,500-2,000 words or equivalent in a multimedia format (i.e., voice-over presentation in MS PowerPoint with detailed speaker
notes). Here are two tutorial videos:
    o https://roehamptonlearning.com/eLearningServices/?p=3813
    o From Youtube: https://youtu.be/Bv3oTExOQVU?si=VCxiUXF6hAhC2SyN
  • Task: Create a proposal for an organisational development strategy that focuses on improving employee well-being. For example, you may think about how changing real behaviours at work (based on the behavioralist approach) can improve workers’ mental health (e.g.,research paper & magazine). You will use GPT to help generate ideas and solutions by crafting effective prompts. Choose one of the following topics as the focus of your proposal. Again, similar to the individual essay, your topic needs to be specific and focused.
o Taylorism, Fordism, Weber, McDonaldization (week 2)
o The Social People and the Organisation (week 3)
    o Culture (Week 4)
o The learning worker and organisation (Week 5)
    o Teams (Week 7)
    o Change (Week 8)
o Corporate Social Responsibility & Ethics (Week 9)
    o Sustainable Business (Week 10)

Structure:

Introduction:

  • Introduce the topic you have chosen and explain why employee well-being is important in this context. Cite two key authors as support. Follow Harvard citation style.
  • Briefly describe what GPT is and how it can be useful in generating ideas for improving well-being in the workplace.

Identify the industry and the targets within the organisation.

  • Step 1: Identifying Well-Being Challenges:
  • Describe a specific well-being challenge related to your chosen topic. For example, if you chose “Teams,” you might
discuss stress or communication issues within teams.
  • Write a few simple prompts to ask GPT for ideas on how to address this challenge. For instance, “What are some ways to reduce stress in a team environment?” or “How can communication be improved in teams to enhance well-being?”
  • Share the responses you received from GPT and explain which ideas you found most useful and why.
  • Share the prompt as it develops; demonstrate that the prompts and answers are getting more thorough and detailed.
  • Step 2: Developing a Well-Being Strategy:
  • Based on the ideas generated by GPT, outline a basic strategy to improve employee well-being in your chosen area. For example, this might include introducing team-building activities, creating a more supportive work culture, or
    implementing flexible work policies.
  • Also justify why you are doing it in terms of a) industry standard, and b) theoretical relevance.
  • Discuss and justify how you refined your prompts to get more specific or helpful suggestions from GPT. For example, you
might have adjusted your prompt to be more focused, such as “How can team-building activities be used to reduce stress and enhance communication?”
  • Explain how you would implement this strategy in a real organisation. What steps would be taken, and what outcomes
would you expect? Feel free to use tables and timelines. Forecast and anticipate potential challenges and their reasons.
  • Step 3: Reflecting on the Use of GPT:
  • Reflect on your experience using GPT to generate ideas. What were the strengths and limitations of using AI in this way?
  • Consider any potential ethical issues that may arise when using AI to inform decisions about employee well-being, such as privacy concerns or the risk of overreliance on AI-generated ideas.
  • Also write at the end accepted methods to use generative AI. Cite one source as support.
  • Discuss how well you think GPT helped you in coming up with practical solutions and what you learned from this process. The response must be a critical evaluation that explain the strength and weakness.

Conclusion:

  • Summarize your proposal and the role GPT played in helping you develop it.
  • Reflect on the potential impact of using AI tools like GPT in the future to create better workplace environments.

Assessment Criteria:

  • Understanding of Concepts: Demonstrate a basic understanding of the chosen topic and its connection to employee well-being.
  • Effective Use of GPT: Show your ability to create simple, clear prompts that guide GPT in generating useful ideas.
  • Practical Application: Present a realistic and feasible strategy based on GPT’s suggestions, with clear steps for implementation.
  • Reflection and Critical Thinking: Reflect on the experience of using GPT, including both the benefits and challenges, and consider ethical implications.
  • Communication: Present your ideas clearly and logically, using proper grammar and structure, whether in writing or in a multimedia format.
