Summative Assessment:

The assessment is one piece of work (100% weighted mark):

Case scenario: Your faculty is planning to hold a graduation ceremony for cohorts that are completing the undergraduate programme. As the Project Manager appointed by your faculty, you are in-charge to organise this event.

As the project is currently at the feasibility stage, you are required to prepare a proposal report for the faculty dean’s approval. The proposal report should outline various key components required to hold the event successfully.

From a project management perspective, you are to include stakeholder analysis for this project. This should clearly identify the internal and external stakeholders and prioritise them (using for example Power Interest Matrix) and how they can contribute to the project.

In addition, set up your project team and outline the key areas required to successfully manage this project – e.g., Project Scope (covering all mandatory items); Project Priorities (with appropriate justification and a balanced trade-off); Work Breakdown Structure (with relevant work packages); Gantt chart; Cost Estimation (with time-phase budget); and potential risks associated with the project.

Lastly identify possible challenges in the various stages of project life cycle; and recommendations to overcome the challenges.

You must utilise a ‘report style’ document by including the following sections:

  • Title page with your name, student number, programme of study, module title, module code, module tutor name and word count
  • A contents page with appropriate page numbers
  • An introduction
  • The main body of the report, which should include items such as stakeholder analysis; details of the project team; Project Scope; Project Priorities; Work Breakdown Structure; Gantt chart; Cost Estimation; and potential risks associated with the project.
  • Challenges and Recommendations
  • References list (‘Harvard Referencing’)
  • Appendices (if needed)

You are required to write an individual report around 3000 words +/- 10%.

Submission of Assessment:

The assignment must be submitted via the Turnitin Dropbox on the Module Canvas Site.

It is advisable to retain a copy of your assignment for you own records.

Your mark and feedback will be made available to you electronically once the internal moderation process has taken place, you should note that at this stage marks are still subject to external examiner and academic board approval.

Students are required to submit their coursework through CANVAS. Only assessments submitted through CANVAS will be marked. Any other submission, including submission to your study centre in hard copy will be treated as a non-submission.
