For this assignment you will create a “zine” (pronounced “zeen”, as in maga-zine), focused on a topic related to one of the listed Unit 7 themes related to Womxn in the Media, and write a summary paragraph related to your chosen theme and zine topic. Choose a theme from Unit 7 to focus on for this assignment Your theme should be related to a 3rd/4th Wave (Contemporary/Media) Feminist Issue Stronger themes will include intersectional feminist issues and examples Review the Zine Resources and Examples Page Zines are one of the easiest ways to share information and demonstrate activism in a low budget, grassroots format. Zines offer an inexpensive, often counter-cultural, opportunity to resist corporate forms of media sharing and express creativity Your zine is required include the following pages: 8 page format, including cover and back (two are your cover and back pages – you can choose ) Cover page should have your theme well identified in some manner Interior content pages should include: Clear concentration on a Unit 7 theme One important quote from one Unit 7 course material Text and images (this is a thinking project not an art project – don’t worry about your art skills, but try to make it look interesting) You can use clip art, collage, drawings, hand-writing, etc. to communicate your ideas. Suggested formats for submission: “Layout” mosaic photo of all pages of your zine Upload a video of you presenting your zine If you want, download this Google Slide File to help you prepare your zine file Use this template to help you plan and organize both your zine and a JPEG file that shows a photo essay of your finished zine. Note that the numbers on the pages are oriented the way your images/text should be so that when you print the page it can be folded into the zine booklet. Instructions: Create a new Reply post and include the following (Public to the class – Responses not required!): A summary discussion paragraph about the theme that you chose from Unit 7 (200+ words) and a discussion about how your zine content is related to that theme. Reference and cite information (APA/MLA) from: Three course materials from Unit 7 Information from an Organization Website or a social media feminist activist that provides support/services/information for women related to your topic Then upload a composite image (like Layout), video, or a Google Slide that has been saved as a JPG/JPEG file to include images of your finished zine. To show your zine you may need several images; organize these images into one or several jpg images image or on one Google Slide page. (You may also upload a video of your zine) Consider using a layout app to create a mosaic image of your zine pages. Use the Upload Image Icon on the text editor tool bar (you might need to expand the toolbar to see the tool icon) View this canvas help page if you need more guidance on this step. Double check that you are using the correct file type of your image so that it can be easily viewed by your classmates. If you use an iphone – you will need to convert your images from heic to jpeg. *Your Reply post should have a visible image above or below your paragraph(s), not just an attached file – points will be deducted for not following these image upload instructions!!
