Technical knowledge alone is no longer enough to ensure professional success in today’s fast-paced job market. Employers increasingly prioritise candidates who demonstrate robust soft skills, including interpersonal, communication, and behavioural competencies which encourage effective workplace interactions (Robles, 2012). Although higher education institutions have traditionally prioritised the development of specific fields of study knowledge, there is an increasing argument over the effectiveness of university programs in developing the soft skills essential for professional achievement. (Succi & Canovi, 2020). Graduates’ employment and career paths are greatly affected by the gap between their academic preparation and job requirements.

Recent studies indicate that approximately 85 percent of long-term job success is attributable to soft skills, whereas merely 15 percent is linked to technical knowledge (Job Outlook 2019 NonMember, n.d.). Regarding this focus, employer surveys continually indicate dissatisfaction with soft skills of graduates (LinkedIn Learning, 2020). Heckman and Kautz (2012) assert that these “non-cognitive skills” are superior indicators of employment success and career advancement compared to traditional academic metrics.

The aim of this paper is to explore postgraduate students’ perceptions of the importance of soft skills and how these skills influence their job search. Additionally, this study examines the relationship between soft skills development, graduate preparedness, and labour market integration, thereby enhancing the theoretical discussion on employability and providing practical guidance for the formulation of higher education. This ain is motivated by as a graduate perception of their readiness in soft skills. Although employer perspectives are widely documented, insufficient attention is paid to the experience graduates gain as they transition from academic work to the professional level and to assessing their own soft skills readiness (Jackson, 2014).

In order to keep the research focused and feasible for completion as a master’s dissertation, this study on graduate employability and soft skills is purposefully constrained by multiple characteristics. This research delimited to financial graduate who completed their postgraduate in London, United Kingdom. This specific population was chosen to ensure that participants had sufficient experience of the transition from higher education to work placement, while also controlling for the impact on organisational reputation. The study examines seven soft skills that were deemed most relevant based on an initial literature review, including critical thinking, communication, teamwork, emotional intelligence, adaptability, time management, and leadership. Focusing on these seven soft skills allows for a more in-depth analysis rather than a broader examination of many other skills. To find out which soft skill is more important for financing postgraduates in London, I will be collecting a date using online questionnaire. The method involves the collection of quantitative data through websites such as Surveymonkey.com and google survey. In respect of the targeting a participants selection, I will be using a criterion sampling and snowball sampling to increase number of participants. The survey will be taken by online questionnaires including 20 questions. The participants will be recent postgraduates who is looking for job or employed in finance in London. After collecting a data, I will be representing a data and analysing a results and findings. Finally, after reflecting on the implication for research will represent a and conclusions
